A CONSTANTLY EVOLVING PROGRAM LINKING TOGETHER ALL OF THE FACTORS THAT MOLD A PLAYER

We believe that an athlete is comprised of many complex parts and to develop a player it is crucial to first dissect and then bring those parts together as one working unit to achieve the same purpose.

We not only apply mathematical and scientific principles to all technical and mechanical teaching but also give great attention to detail in mental focus, internal motivations, confidence building and problem solving.  Not overlooking the importance of enhancing the player’s communication skills, leadership and team chemistry.

AT the IMVBTA

  • We are able to reach a player at his or her individual level.
  • We open lines of communication to get to the root of the problem
  • We observe the athlete during a systematic evaluation process
  • We Observe the athlete in a competitive, playing or game–like environment
  • We Apply teaching principles of math, science and repetition read more
  • We find it a necessity to bring all of the player’s influential parts together as a whole unit working towards the same purpose

Club Program

The Club Program & its Role

The “club program” a player and their parents select is critically important for that players overall development.

NO Two Volleyball programs are alike!  However, they can be categorized based on certain criteria such as:

  • Technical vs Tactical Focused training
  • Practices can be geared more towards a skills development style vs. situational or game style
  • Some programs are about winning at all costs as opposed to improving the level of all players on a team
  • There are programs that are known to be “cut throat” competitive for positions and others that lean more towards loyalty and long term commitments.
  • Some programs seek out the best, top of the line coaching staff to push their players to elite levels while others’ attempt to provide a service to players who are less committed and want to learn and play this sport for fun.
  • There are varying Philosophies:
    • Power game and Offense driven (big and strong at the net)
    • Finesse and refined skills often more technically driven and defense & ball control oriented
    • Gold Medal Squared vs. Deception based and sophisticated style of offense
    • Perimeter, Rotation, Reverse rotation, Semi rotation and Read defenses to name a few
  • Countless varying technical teachings such as:

Constant motion through ball vs. stable hold and freeze; 3 step vs. 4 step hitting approaches; first step vs. second step tempo’s for hitters; right-left-right to ball for setters vs. right-left plant or left-right plant;  contact point for setters ball low in front of head vs. ball high above head; swing blocking vs. shuttle/shuffle blocking; shoulder roll, barrel roll, extension dive-role, bear crawl, chest dive, sprawling and run through to name a few defense moves; bow and arrow vs. high five and stop the hand at contact vs. swing through for serving.

We at the IMVBTA have researched and study each program that our players compete for.  We freely work with and encourage communication with the coaches of the individual at their request to act as a facilitator of their teachings and philosophies.

We pride ourselves as being a NON COMPETE Program and firmly reject or discourage any negative conversation with regards to the coaches, teachings or the programs the players compete for!

We aim to “enhance” the overall skill level and performance of the player.

One of the most important roles of the club program is to provide assistance to the players and parents in seeking out and securing a collegiate scholarship.

Due to the vast number of players and programs this endeavor can become quite overwhelming.  Timing is everything!

This is where the IMVBTA can help bridge the gap.

*It is really important to research and chose the program that best fits the player’s personality and desire levels.

IN MOTION Trainer

The InMotionVolleyballTrainingAcademy:

  • One of our objectives is to link together the four primary groups of people in the Player’s life to complement and facilitate one another. We see the Player, Parent, School, club, and specialized training program as one complex functioning Unit.
  • We respect and encourage the player to follow the direction of the program they are affiliated with.

We pride ourselves as being a NON COMPETE Program and firmly reject or discourage any negative conversation with regards to the coaches or the programs the players compete for! We attempt at all costs to enhance the programs’ own teaching style and philosophy.

We Do Our HOMEWORK: We have a team that researches and studies each program that our players compete for to develop a working knowledge of their particular training philosophy.  We work with and communicate with the coaches of the individual, at their request, to act as a facilitator of the program they play for.

  • We get to the root of the problem. There is a cause and effect to everything. We dissect everything down into its parts by applying mathematical and scientific principles in a complete evaluation process.
    • Such as: Newton's Third Law of Motion (Physics) & Euclid's Postulate (Geometry)
  • We treat everyone equally and fairly.  We care about all of the players who come to seek help from us.  We are here for you! It is our mission to bring your level of performance up to your desired needs.  We are not influenced by playing time, program restrictions, monetary gain or favoritism.  Our sole investment is in YOU!

IMVBTA OBJECTIVE:To be great teachers/Instructors of this game and help in the facilitation of reaching each and every player’s highest level of potential.  Give each child out there as equal an opportunity to achieve the level of success he or she is capable of

IMVBTA KEYS TO SUCCESS:Treat everyone as important as the next.  Do our best at every moment to improve the areas of the player’s goals.  Always stay positive!  Respect others authority and opinions.

Because we are a non-threatening program, a player will often open up and share things with us that they may be reluctant to with their coach or parent.

Mind you, we are not in the business of “what makes you feel good”, but rather a get to it and resolve the issue program.  We do at times tell players and parents what they don’t want to hear.  Sometimes a good dose of wake-up reality is just what a person needs and the programs are not always in a position to offer it up.

Parents

The Parent(s) or guardian(s) play the most important role in the player’s life regardless of their level

 of understanding in this sport!

The Parent knows their child better than anyone else.

At IMVBTA we often develop a very close, long term relationship with the parent(s) assisting them by any means possible at reaching common goals set forth

We welcome Parent input and involvement while many programs dismiss and exclude Parents concerns or requests.

The Parent is raising their child with their morals and values and cultural principles which lays the foundation for molding their future character.

It is eminently important to determine what this is and align our teachings and goals with this consideration in mind.

The Parent(s) seek clear communication as to the ability and skill levels of their child.

We are fair, balanced and most importantly, “HONEST”, even if it hurts.  It does not do anyone justice to continue to perpetuate a false sense of reality to a player.

Let’s not also forget that the Parent(s) are making a huge financial commitment towards the development of their child’s future.   They should be afforded a certain amount of input as to the direction their son or daughters training should go.  Everyone will agree that we want to get the” best bang for our buck”.

We at the IMVBTA are not bound by any one philosophy, teaching style, set of rules or structured program that can limit a player’s development.  We are free and flexible enough to experiment and tailor our training to the individual, making use of all the necessary tools available to reach the set goals.

More often than not, the Parent see’s the player’s sport as an investment into an academic future.  Be it through scholarship or as an avenue in assisting entry into a competitive collegiate program

We listen to your needs and expectations.   We support the direction you are pointing your child in and offer advice when requested

Many Parent(s) come to me with the same ongoing problem: “I really don’t understand how this game works.  It is very complicated. “

At the IMVBTA we attempt to walk the Parent(s) through much of the training process with the player.  After all, they are typically present at every session or event.

Parents and players often bring conflicts they have with a program or coach seeking assistance on how to resolve or approach them.

We frequently act as agents or mediators working on the behest of the school and club programs to clarify situations, sort through conflicts and offer accomplished volleyball advice to diffuse problems.

High School Program

The School Programs often have the most difficult struggles with “the player”.

They have a short preparation time for their season.  They often have players from many different club programs with varying philosophies and styles of teaching.  Sometimes they only have a few club players and limited talent elsewhere to work with.

They often have to handle internal school problems or academic concerns.

They are bound by the rules set forth by the school Athletic director and often have limited resources available

A whole variety of issues can ensue for the school coach

Need I say “Teenagers”, hormones, emotional and mental lack of maturity.

How the IMVBTA works with the athlete and their school programs:

At the younger levels of elementary and middle school the players are generally just being introduced to the sport for the first time.

Here, we simply work on building the most solid foundation of basic all round skills for each individual.  We do not pigeon-hole players into specific roles or positions at this time because it is crucial they learn all positions and skills.

Some middle school programs are highly competitive where you may see some players already forming certain habits in their skill sets.  It is critically important at these stages to ensure proper technique and direction.  It is most difficult to change habits or break bad ones down the road.

We look for and weed out those problem areas early on as to ensure better progress for their future training

At the High School Level it is more complicated:

Some players are fortunate and have a high level coaching staff.  Others might end up with the History teacher as their coach.  Some school programs favor players who play for the club they coach at.

Some coaches try to force players to change technique in a couple of weeks who have been working to perfect what they are being taught in their club program for years.

There are, at times, drop in performance levels or poor habits creep in during the course of a HS season.

We at IMVBTA help to maintain a consistency in regimen as well as sifting out signs of any unusual habits.

We offer assistance to the school programs and players to help bridge the gap between the club program seasons.

It is of the utmost importance that all of our athletes strive to attain high marks in their academic concentration.

Player

The player or “athlete”

Comes to the In Motion Volleyball Training Academy seeking additional training to improve his or her individual skills.

The “player” is comprised of several parts

  • Physical traits and abilities: tall/short; strong/weak; athletic/uncoordinated;
  • Mental traits: sharp or quick thinking/slow and limited comprehension;
  • Character: good/bad attitude; giving/selfish; ego/humble; confident/unsure; passive/aggressive
  • Thinking & Focus: attention to detail/global or analytical
  • Nature: disciplined/lazy; controlling or lacking self-control
  • A developing, thinking, maturing being evolving over time

The “player” has various influences in their developing world, each of which has their own idea and or direction for the player.

  1. Parental guidance, upbringing and influence
  2. High School coach and program
  3. Club Coach and Programs
  4. Private instructor/Trainer =>IMVBTA

We at the IMVBTA provide a link between all of the influencing factors in his or her world

The “player” generally has an Overall Goal & Direction

  • Not every player wants to or expects to continue their volleyball career on through college.
  • Conversely, some have the desire to be on the Olympic team

We at the IMVBTA help the player frame those goals, put a game plan together and set the plan In Motion.

The “player” may be behind in development.  The player may learn at a different pace or need a different style of teaching.  The player may need help in a very specialized role that the coach might not be as proficient in (for instance a coach that was a middle blocker on a team, even at an elite level, may not understand the complexities of a setter or libero position)

We at the IMVBTA have a qualified staff that is proficient in all areas and levels of the game to help the player with their specific needs.

Far too often blame for shortcomings and circumstances are placed in the wrong direction and excuses come about for everything. In order to get beyond the excuses and get on with progress….

We at the IMVBTA also try to provide one additional essential need for the player

That is:   ACCOUNTABILITY!  Looking within, before placing or shifting blame.

This is often challenging to address and even more difficult to come to grips with for most players.
